BNS and Emirates Sky Cargo, Pakistan, created a buzz in the local airfreight industry when it carried a 14.5 tonne generator on its Boeing 747-F freighter.
The assignment, originally placed with a competitor carrier, ran into problems and the unit could not be accommodated. Emirates Sky Cargo was soon called in to handle the assignment. A plan was put together at short notice and a Boeing 747F was instantly dispatched to Karachi.
At Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport, Emirates Sky Cargo successfully managed to lift the generator without the use of any cranes, thanks to the nose loading feature of the Boeing 747F and its rollerised, powered inner loading system. Using three very large Forklift-trucks working in tandem, Gerry’s Dnata team moved the unit from the truck to the aircraft. Even so, it still took some 30 people to push the unit into the aircraft.
In undertaking this difficult task, the Emirates Sky Cargo team lived up to its tradition of meeting and overcoming challenges. It was a daunting exercise to uplift and ensure safe and timely transportation of the generator and we are very pleased that everybody rose to the occasion and teamwork lead to the achievement of another milestone.
